Cooke City in the Wintertime - A Whole New World to be Explored!

Hang on and rediscover winter in Cooke City, Montana.  Located just 4 miles from the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone National Park.  Cooke City area's average annual snowfall is 500 inches per year!  Year after year visitors to our area in the wintertime are never disappointed.  We are at about 7,800ft. above sea level in Cooke City itself.  Some areas around us where one would snowmobile would get up to 10,000ft.!  With our high altitude, we never have a problem with a lack of snow during our winter months.

Cruising along on a brand new Arctic Cat or Yamaha snowmobile through hundreds of acres of National Forest Land that surrounds Cooke City.  Discovering great places along the way on Highway 212, "Top of the World" in the Beartooth Mountains (close by), or Daisy or Lulu Passes.  All these wonderful great mountainous areas have the best terrain of rolling hills leading into beautiful mountain top vista views!

To get here in the wintertime, there are two choices...take the Chief Joseph Highway (120) up to the Pilot Creek parking lot, gear-up and unload your snowmobile and head into town on highway 212 for 9 miles.  Or come through Yellowstone National Park (entrance fees are required) through the Northeast entrance to Cooke City by car.

We get snow here as early as October and it continues to stick around until June.  The best riding in this area is generally anytime after Christmas all the way until mid-March.  There are several options available in the Cooke City area for lodging during your visit to our quaint mountain town.
